Background

Global Automotive Industry is set for radical transformation with Electrical Vehicles (EVs) emerging as a promising alternative to Internal Combustion Engines.  Sensing the technological advancements in EV, the Government of India had unveiled ‘National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) 2020' in 2013 which aims at gradually ensuring vehicle population of about 6-7 million Electric and Hybrid vehicles in India by 2020 thereby reducing vehicular pollution.

A scheme of Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) was introduced to provide incentives for all forms of hybrid/pure electric vehicles, batteries and battery management systems and charging infrastructure. The vision was enunciated two years ago to have 100 per cent Electric Vehicle Fleet by 2030.

Given the huge market potential and urban infrastructure, the city of Hyderabad is making inroads as a major destination for Electric vehicles in India. Substantiating this, Government of Telangana is laying a robust ecosystem for EVs by providing charging stations at Parks, Metro Stations and Public places. It is set to announce EV policy as well.

IndianOil envisions exploring newer avenues that are presented by alternative and renewable energy sectors and be part of the evolving energy landscape. Taking this forward, Retail Team-TAPSO successfully negotiated with Fortum India for setting up of first public charging stations at retail outlets in the city of Hyderabad on exclusive basis.

Details on the Tie-Up between IndianOil and Fortum India:

  • Initially, the charging stations are being set up at 2 ROs on pilot basis and thereafter it would be expanded to 50 ROs in a period of 2 years.
  • Established on BOOT basis for 7 years, the charging stations will have two DC charge points each of 10 KW or 15 KW charging capacity.
  • The smart charger can be accessed by EV user using either Fortum Charge & Drive Mobile App or RFID. Payment shall be processed electronically through Credit card or debit card initially.
  • Based on the efficacy of the proposed model, it will be taken up by other SOs.
